Icon. Showstoppah. Main Eventah.

This was a lot of fun. Sure the entire season is only two and a half hours long, but this show is so damn funny, it doesn’t even matter. Yakky Doodle, The Jetsons, Augie Doggie, Black Vulcan and Grape Ape are just a few of the classic Hanna-Barbara characters that get lambasted. I also loved seeing Quick Draw McGraw as Charlton Heston.

Harvey Birdman was one of the big three of Adult Swim when it first started along with it’s siblings of Sealab 2021 and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. We can’t count Space Ghost: Coast to Coast at that had been airing LONG before Adult Swim started. When these were new and fresh Harvey Birdman was my least favourite of the three. Since I’ve gotten volumes 1 and 2 for free I’ve found these have actually aged the best whereas I can’t really stand ATHF these days.

This volume gives us the introduction of Birdgirl, Peanut goes through puberty, Harvey gets promotions and demotions up the yin yang and there are a lot of running jokes through the season. Plus they kill Astro and show him eaten by buzzards. Nice.

This is a fun little satiric look at the 60’s and 70’s of Hanna-Barbara. It’s great to see they can really make fun of themselves. I don’t know i I would pay for this, but as a freebie, it was a fun find and it’s staying in the collection. At fifteen minutes a pop, I can have one in the background during my ab crunches or sit-ups.

Is it Worth Keeping? Yes.
