DVD of the Day #164 - Shark Week: 20th Anniversary Collection
One of the downfalls to this DVD thing I’ve been doing is I can’t interrupt a box set when I start one. This means all I can watch is that series. In this case, it was 12 hours of Sharks. Sharks eating animals. Sharks eating people. Sharks jumping out of the water. Sharks Migrating. Sharks sharks sharks. Now, I’m not that into sharks in the first place. I think they’re neat, but I’m not fascinated by them as much as the Discovery Channel. Still, this was a free box set off Swapadvd.com and I needed a documentary, so I decided to give this a shot.
There are fourteen different episodes in this set. They range from documentaries on prehistoric sharks or the bull shark to documentaries on people who have survived shark attacks, albeit it not intact. One of the neatest documentaries was actually about a shark attack that happened while filming another documentary on sharks and they showed all the footage of the guy getting savaged by a shark. Another fun documentary was on Frank Mundus who was the inspiration for Quint from Jaws and how he has gone from shark hunter to shark protector.
All of the documentaries are well done and it was really interesting to see how much mileage you can get out of sharks. Of course, this is only the best of the past ten years of shark documentaries so there is even more out there in the Discovery Channel’s archives. I think I was all shark’d out by the end of this, but I was still glad to have watched it. Shark Week wasn’t a keeper, simply because I’m never going to have a yearning for seeing any of these documentaries again, but for those of you into sharks, this is certainly worth a look.
Is It Worth Keeping? No, but it was worth watching.
