1 - Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random quotations: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to flickr’s “explore the last seven days” http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Put it all together, that’s your first album.

Here’s mine. it’s kind of weird.

Things of Note:

1. I will be in Philadelphia the weekend of Feb 16th for the whole Dracula’s Ball. So if you’re in the area - stop on by.

Also before they get started. YES. I will be at the DracBall. And Vlad will be one of the three DJ’s there. YES. Lucard + Vlad at something called Dracula’s Ball. Yuck it up my non-gothie subculture related friends. Yuck it up hard. God knows I am.

However, much of my time in Philly will be spent probably eating cheesesteaks or going to Morimotos. MORIMOTO RULES!

Congrats to Vlad on getting the DJ gig at DracBall. With Steve, Donna, and Vlad going up, it was just the excuse I needed to buy two pairs of wacky cyberdog pants and to see how many cheese steaks I can devour before not being able to fit in to them.

2. I learned last night that Sascha Konietzko from KFMDM is a Mr. Chewie Biteums and Baby fan. Who knew? They are awfully cute…and destructive. :-P

3. Out of the six or so W-2’s I should have this year, only one has come in. Grr I say.

4. Diehard Gamefan is looking good. New image gallery up. Layout is nearly done on Widro’s end. Mr. Rose has made some incredible artwork for the staff and hopefully long time readers will catch the big in jokes going on in mine.

5. Endless Ocean is still fun. Review will be on Inside Pulse Monday morning. I expect it to get a 6.5 or so.

Christ, What a Morning

Friday, January 25th, 2008

I get in this morning and there’s an email from my boss. Seems the printers we used to make business cards mispelled our President’s last name. I call them about the error. They say “Oh, we’re really busy. We don’t know if we can get to it today.” Even though it’s their error. Holy crap.

I tried our main fax several times. Not working. I tried our secondary fax. It says there is no answer on the other end. I call them. They’re getting my faxes, but only the logo and then three blank pages. This means either their or our fax machines are royally screwed up. I’m guessing ours because well…it’s ours. I then spell out the last name. They wrote CHLIES. It should be CHILES.

I get a call thirty minutes later. They say “But we DID spell it CHLIES.” ARRRRRGH!

I should ask this as a just in case…

Anyone who I am missing on Facebook. Myspace, or who I lack the Wii code from?

Yay Thursday!

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I’m the only one in the office this morning due to the all day board meetings. Someone had to stay behind and it might as well be me. Yay for quiet and getting stuff done without distractions.

For the launch of DHGF, I’m thinking about running a Pokemon Battle Rev tourney, with the winner getting a certain legendary Pokemon you can’t get in the game. Not sure if anyone would be interested though.

Endless Ocean is still interesting. I find myself preferring to just explore rather than do the Guiding/Training/plot advancement. I did get a wacky event in my second “Day” of playing in which a rare shark spawning occured. Interesting game there…

Should be a long and interesting weekend ahead.

I learned the first season of Swamp Thing came out on DVD Tuesday, so I ordered it. I had fond memories of it as a little kid, but something tells me it’s going to leave my collection as quickly as it joined…

Even though *I* think Star Wars is lame, here’s a link to a WOTC survey. If you complete it, you get a free starter pack for their Star Wars Minis game. Have fun: click here!

Middle of the Week Again!

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Wednesdays always come so fast.

More weird sleep last night. One of my dreams involved being on some development staff for a new Scooby-Do game, so I pitched two versions: one using the Maniac Mansion engine and the other using Haunting Ground. Now that I am awake, both would actually be logical good fit for those meddling kids.

Endless Ocean is good even though it put me to sleep. What I mean is that it’s soo damn soothing, after an hour I started getting really sleepy. It’s a combo of Pokemon and Animal Crossing. No real point other than to explore the entire game and see all the different fish. It’s cute though, but I’m going to have to get some Mp3’s on my flash card because the sound track makes John Tesh music seem fast and exciting.

Board stuff is finally over at the end of the week, Thank Christ.

Date tomorrow. Yay.

Heath Ledger is still dead.

This is funny

A few things

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

1) From Bat: Crazy ass Cloverfield Monster Toy from Hasbro Notice there is no picture yet because the movie was just released. Also notice the price tag. Oy.

2. Last night’s Democratic debate pretty much soldified why I prefer Edwards to Obama or Clinton. Oh man, those two embarassed the hell out of themselves while Edwards came out smelling like a rose. It reminded me a lot of the 1998 Humprey/Coleman/Ventura Gov. debate. This could make the South Carolina primary, which is Edwards home territory, very interesting. I don’t see him winning, but I can defintely see Obama and Clinton courting Edwards for the VP nomination.

3. WWE debuted in HD last night. I’ll have to hook up my cable box to my HD TV and watch it next week to see what, if anything looks different. Any WWE DVD’s I have are automatically upcoverted by my HD DVD player, but I’ve yet to notice any real difference in quality.

How sad is it that I’m considering watching wrestling for the first time in quite some time simply to see what the picture quality difference/if I can spot any blown spots rather than interest in male agression ballet soap opera?

4. Oscar nominees are announced, and surprise! I haven’t seen a single film from the “Best Picture” nominees.

5. Wow. Amy Winehouse got on tape smoking crack. . That’s not a surprise to me. The real surprise was the photo of her attached to the BBC news article. Didn’t she used to be pretty (aside from British teeth) once? Now she’s got meth teeth (even worse when compounded with her English maw), coke nose and holy crap hair fallout.

It’s good to see the other side of the atlantic has musicians turning into ugly messes as well.

Stupid lack of sleep

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Okay, weird restless night. A lot of 30 minute dreams ranging from going with Ronni down to Louisville, KY to “The Girl Store,” whatever that is, in my Pokemobile, to visiting some weird hotel that was a combination of “The Lost Room” and “1408.”

At one point in the night I woke up because for some reason I was holding my left leg not only amazingly tight and straight, but I was grinding it down into the mattress. I woke up from my knee feeling like it was going to pop. Weird.

About 6:30-7am my phone rings, but very briefly. I have the ringtone from the original (not American remake) “One Missed Call” and it stopped a few notes in each time. I assumed it was an accidental dial due to the quick hang up. Either that or whoever was on the other end realizing I was probably not awake at that time under normal circumstances. At the time I assumed it was another dream and went back to sleep. I got up this morning and checked and saw one of my ex’s in Minneapolis called twice. Odd coincidence methinks, because she always seems to call within 48 hours of me going celibate for a period of time.

Endless Ocean hits today. Reviews are all over the place with this, so I should have a lot of fun reviewing it.

Luchagors are going to be playing in Richmond in about two months. It’s a bit of a drive, but I might as well go because I’ve yet to see them live. Oddly enough, like me, Amy and crew are far better known, recgonized and accepted by the mainstream than within our actual subculture. I mean honestly, I could ask someone like say Degenx or even Shane “Who do you recognize: Daniel Ash or the Heartbreak Kid? Siouxsie Sioux or Miss Congeniality?” and the answer would be the latter whereas if I asked Phil or Spike, the answer would be the former. Now that I think about it, I should probably bring Steve down when I go, as he’s been wanting to tap the mainstream market more and I can’t think of a better source musically in the US from our “Your clothing is weird” conglomerate culture than the Luchagor’s lead singer.

Review: Startropics (Virtual Console, NES)

Star Tropics
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
Genre: Action-Platformer
System Released on Virtual Console (originally NES)
Release Date: 01/07/2008 (Original Release Date was December 12th, 1990)

StarTropics is one of those games that was hugely popular when it was first release. Nintendo Power devoted almost an entire issue to it, and it reminded of a game released in July of 1987 called Legend of Zelda.

Although StarTropics was very popular, it’s sequel was a critical and financial failure for Nintendo, which is odd because it was basically the same exact game, but with improved graphics.

Another interesting note about StarTropics – it was never released in Japan. Indeed, this game was a US only release, although the first ST game would hit European shores some time in 1992. This is an interesting footnote, if only because the game was made in Japan, and its one of the few times a Japanese development company didn’t release their game within their home country.

I’d never bothered with StarTropics as a kid. I was too busy with games like River City Ransom, or Baseball Stars in the end days of the Nintendo and was firmly enjoying the early days of my new Sega Genesis to bother with yet another platformer. I’ve always been told I had missed out, so when this came available for the Virtual Console, I snapped it up. I mean, it was only five bucks, and it gave me something new to review while waiting for Endless Ocean to come out.

So is StarTropics worthy of being a classic, or has it aged poorly over the past decade and a half?
