Fun Day

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I met up with MercuryChan from Lj about 2:30pm today and she took me all around Cleveland. It’s actually a pretty cool city with a great down town, some awesome parks and gardens and campuses. I had a lot of fun seeing the whole area and would have loved to take in an Indians game if I had a chance.

We went to Tommy’s, a really excellent Vegitarian place. I had a tofurkey hoagie with pizza sauce, mozzarella, provolene, and lettuce. Yummy. Then she took me to Big Fun, which is basically a real life ebay for toys.

Shade - they had a matcbox SDF-1 in the box for $75!

They also had FRUITY YUMMY MUMMY MERCHANDISE. Madeline and Erin - make me some!

She also showed me her flat which was an amazing place. From all that Mercurychan showed me, this is a city I’d love to come back to and have fun with. And Kennedy you were right about the hairpin turns. Eek!

OMG, is the Daily Show making me laugh really hard today. I haven’t seen this show in years!

I am getting up at 5am tomorrow. That’s 4am my time. Holy shit. This is insane! I am going to ved early Weds and sleeping in forever Thursday.

Lookie Me. I’m in Cleveland.

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

About to jump in the shower and then hang out with a friend.

Got here at 11:30 CST/12:30 time zone I have to get used to again.

Movers called me at 11:18am/12:16 saying my stuff will be there at around 1pm tomorrow. It’s 360 miles to DC from here so it looks like ANOTHER 5am morning for me and the bunnies to ensure I leave at 6 and get to DC at noon. Oy vey.

Off we go again

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

My god, it’s 6:22am! Wtf? Why am I getting up earlier these days than I am when I worked at XSYS? Mainly to beat the heat and because what else is there to do in Hammond, IN? :-P

Should be a five hour drive to Cleveland. 2 hours less than yesterday and no I-90, which makes it all the better.

Last night I ended up going to bed at 10:30. I woke up at 12:30, 2, 4, and finally six. Bed is comfy, but man was I not used to the quiet or comfort. I think I was so mentally drained I couldn’t sleep that well.

Tomorrow? D.C. and the new life that awaits me there.

Travelogue transcription

Monday, July 30th, 2007

5am: Okay, the rabbits are not going to let me sleep any longer. It’s 5:01, so I might as well laod the car and get the hell out.

6am: Car is loading. It is 6am on the dot and we are heading out. Ravvits are not happy and the car is crammed full of graham. Adieu Minnesota.

7am: I’m 45 miles into WI. So far so good!

8am: I just passed mile marker 124 for Chicago. I’m making pretty good time here. Almost 80 miles the last hour.

9am. I’m halfways there. I’ve gone 227 miles in 3 hours and I go to 438 today. I just passed the exit for Circus World. Ah memories of John, Summer, Chris and I going there. Those poor animals. I wonder where House on the Rock is.

9:41am -Just filled up with gas I had a quarter of the tank and I’ve passed Madison, so I don’t know when the next big area will be. 273.1 miles on 3/4th of a tank. not bad.

10am - 291 miles in 4 hours. I am in the middle of nowhere. When does WI end?

10:07 - 300 miles. More than 1/4th there!

10:17 I am now leaving WI. Holy crap! About time. Hello IL.

11am. 363 miles. Here comes the tolls. (It ended up being $4.20 in tolls through IL)

11:41 - 400 miles. Traffic is slowing down to crazy levels. What is going on here?

Noon - 405 miles. I’ve gone five miles in 20 minutes. This is insane. The rabbits are freaking out and it’s 90 in the sun

12:54pm - Finally I am in Indiana. This was the worst driving experience I have ever had. It has been stop and go for over an hour. I should have been there at noon. Now I’m going to get there about 1pm.

12:58pm - I’m here. Thank god. I’m going to take a nap and be in a bed for the first time in a week. Ah the little pleasures.

Monday Evening

Monday, July 30th, 2007

And here we are in the hotel in Indiana, watching Monday Night Raw (are they turning Umanga face?) and petting bunnies. I’ll probably be on the road at 7-8am tomorrow and get to the hotel in Independence about 12-1.

This afternoon I called Kennedy to let him know I was here, walked to a Wendys and ate a side salad and a rosty, and got a second salad for the bunnies. Then I took a 2 hour nap. Kennedy called with train info and I took a shower and headed to the station.

I hate the Indiana trains. They didn’t call out what station was next and a few stops didn’t even have names of locations. Still, the trains are very comfy and well maintained. So they have that.

I met up with Mike Kennedy from IP (wolfbaronxylo on LJ), his wife Jen and marmadyth ( I don’t know if you want your actual name mentioned) and we went out for Thai in the Hyde Park area of Chicago. It’s a really nice area. Dinner was great (I had roast duck and pineapple), company was better, and Jen and Mike have an adorable kid.

Good times all around. Can’t wait for Cleveland!

I’m in Indiana

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Got here about 23 minutes ago. I left at 6am and would have been here at noon if not for the god awful I-90 road construction that literally slowed me down to 20 miles an hour for the last two hours. Christ. Thank god I take I-80 to Ohio tomorrow.

Mercurychan - Call me tonight or about noon-1pm tomorrow, as I forgot to program in your phone number and it’s on my desktop. Sorrysorrysorry!

I’ll post my hour by hour commentary that I did with my voice recorder later. I think I enter murderous rage about noon with Chicago road construction.

For now it’s giving bunnies water and a bath and then getting a bit of food in me and showering and napping before Kennedy comes to visit at 5pm or so.

If you’re in the Chicago area, feel free to give me a call!

Final Post from Minnesota

Monday, July 30th, 2007

All I’ve got left is to pack up the rabbits and my computer. I got little to no sleep last night as the rabbits, especially Chewie, were behaving like monsters last night. It was too bad too, because when I first went to sleep Chewie snuggled up next to me. Then all hell broke loose. Bad bunnies and a pretty bad way to spend my last night in Minneapolis.

Oh well, I should be in Chicago by 1pm. I can sleep there.

See you all there!

And so here we are

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

It’s 9:32pm as I type this. My giveaway stuff have pretty much been scavaenged over by neighbors and others in the apartment complex. As I speak three people are digging through it out by the dumpster. Weird, but it makes me to feel happy that it’s not going to waste. Anything being abandoned always bothers me.

I spenjt from 5:30pm until 8:30 pm BBQ and baking with Scott, Shae, Stephanie and Cailyn. Really good time and I’m going to miss them all. They talked about visiting during Cherry Blossom time, and out of all my friends here in Minneapolis, they are the ones I know I’ll see down there first.

They even got me a going away card which was of Pikachu. And it was fuzzy! SO CUTE. Of course, it was a “Happy 6th Birthday card”, but it still totally rocked.

Everything’s done and ready. It feels so weird to say that but it’s true. I’m not going to miss the weather or the driving or the average resident, but I’m really going to miss my lake jogs, my friends and my little organic co-op right next door to me.

Who knows? Maybe some day I’ll be back here to live again. You never know where life is going to take you. For now, it’s all about my new kick ass job and home and the people I know in D.C. Can’t look back, can only look forward.

Ladies and gentlemen…the Heartbreak Kid has left the building.

Good bye Minneapolis.

Nice!

As much as I hate the character’s current portrayal, the Iron man movie looks amazing.
