Pikachu in Planet Earth

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

God I love David Attenborough’s obsession with the Pika! They just showed a cuddly oh so cute Pika outsmart a fox by tricking it into going after a gopher or so other larger land animal. Oh my god they look just like Pikachu with tiny ears. Awwwww.

I want one.

And it’s Tuesday

Polar Bears vs Walrus (walruses? Walrusi?) is pretty intense. Poor Polar bears. Damn this show. It’s like “Fuck our stupid investing in things that blow up. Save the fuzzy animals!”

I think I’m on 4 hours of sleep. Hyper bunnies plus last night = exhausted Alex.

1 Week away. Holy crap holy crap holy crap.

Pokemon BR, The Bigs, Grim Grimoire and Hoshigami all come out this week. Pretty intense week for gaming.

Shit, I just want some time to relax and rest. Sadly, it looks like I won’t have that opportunity until freakin; August.

Awww. baby penguins just hatched. So cute.

Oh no. No no no.

It’s offically being called a double muder/suicide by the police there in Atlanta. They found the means of death. They won’t say what or how. Only that it wasn’t a gun or a stabbing instrument. All 3 were also found in seperate rooms.

This is awful. I’ve been on the phone and Im with friends all night. About 30-40 people in all. I appreciate the people calling thinking he might have been a friend of mine, Sadly no. I never knew Benoit. I appreciate the people who show concern for me.

It’s a moment of shock for all of us who who have loved the squared circle: either as fans, journalists or those of us who have stepped between the ropes and locked up for an audience. Benoit was truly one of the best in the ring. Let’s all hope that whatever the final truth is, that it isn’t something that will destroy his legacy.

God damn, what an awful day this turned out to be with all this.

Review #137 (Alex gives a Pokemon game a low score and a verbal thrashing. OMGWTF!)

Sorry no pics, IP’s image uploader is down and I’m not in the mood to edit it either. If you catch any typos I missed, please let me know

Review: Pokemon Battle Revolution (Nintendo Wii)

Pokemon Battle Revolution
Developer: Genius Sonority Inc.
Publisher: Nintendo
Genre: Turn based RPG
Release Date: 6/26/2007

It’s my first ever Nintendo Wii review. Is anyone surprised it is a Pokemon Game?

PBR is actually a step down from the Game Cube games. They’re removed anything resembling a story mode and it’s just battling, battling, battling. It doesn’t even have the mini-games of Pokemon Stadium. As much as I love Pokemon, this is basically a $50 add on to your DS cartridges that lets you see your Pokemon actually battle and in 3-D to boot. Because of the pure battling nature and the need for a copy of Pokemon Pearl or Pokemon Diamond to actually achieve anything with PBR, the game is geared towards only a small niche of Pokemon fans. This doesn’t mean you need the DS games to play PBR, or that you can’t have fun with the game if you’re not well versed in Pokelore. It just means that your experience will be limited otherwise.

With this clarification in place, is PBR worth your money when it doesn’t even have the options afforded by the venerable Nintendo 64 version of this game? Is it an overpriced clunker that only lets you see how the DS and Wii can interact, or is it going to be as enjoyable as it is guaranteed to sell truckloads?

As much as I like scooping everyone

this is one story I wish I didn’t know before the actual dirtsheets and wwe.com…

Hatton can confirm I knew it before anyone else as I looked like an idiot at first breaking it to the IP wrassler writers and there was nothing anywhere. I feel like a bit of an ass thinking it was a work and then going back to writing the PBR review.

Edited to include a picture from wwe.com

Dead Canadian Crippler? Oh please be a work fed to me by some friends to advance an angle through my blog. Otherwise R.I.P. Chris Benoit.

Where is Kevin Sullivan right now, eh?

Two quick things

Monday, June 25th, 2007

1. I learned I can get my daily situps at work done during my lunch hour. Yay!

2. I just watched a pack of otters take on an aligator - and win! Awesome. Then I had to watch a crocodile drown a bunch of animal in a hideously slow and agonizing way. Not as awesome. Nature = brutal.

Brillant but Depressing

I have the documentary series Planet Earth playing while at work today. Holy hell is this show depressing. I mean, I love BBC nature shit. I love David Attenborough, but so far I have seen I have seen a species of cat go extinct, a beautiful bird of paradise fail in its mating attempt, an newly born calf eaten by wolves, and a young elephant dehydrate to death because it walked the wrong way after being seperated from its pack. And I’m only 36 minutes into the first episode.

Holy hell, I could never be a wildlife researcher or photgrapher. I’d be all like “Fuck neutrality! Save the baby dying animals!” I get too worked up I guess at seeing things die for no reason/having to see how badly humanity has fucked up the planet and everything living on it and how there’s no way we’re ever going to stop.

Another work week begins

7 days away from a much needed vacation that will be anything but a vacation. Hell, it’s going to be more stressful than a normal day.

8 days away from a pretty big decision I have to make that affects everything. I hate that 95% of the people who know what I’m talking about won’t shut the bloody hell up about it. :-P
It’s hard enough being patient and rational about it as it is.

1408 was brilliant. Very well done, although they cut out my favorite line from the short story. I was going in expecting it to be balls awful, especially as the trailer added a monster and other stupid shit, but thankfully it was just trailer fluff and not actually in the movie. It stuck as close to the story as a movie generally can. As the actually story is about 30 minutes long, what was added wasjust to pad the movie out to 90 minutes and it worked.

I generally hate John Cusack films. Every single one has bored the hell out of me. This though?Really good in this near one-man show performance. I think what I liked best is that the majority of the movie is done in real time. Nice effect you don’t normally see in scary movies.

Critics are loving it too. Whereas horror films are generally shat upon, pretty much everyone is unanimous that this is a quality film in addition to being a scary one. Gorey scholockfest are overrated, and the movie is basically the anti-Hostel.

It’s just too bad I couldn’t see it with Chris. It’s even worse than SLJ didn’t get to say “I want this motherfuckin’ room out of my motherfuckin’ hotel!”

Look for a Pokemon Battle Revolution review today.
