Who here in Minneapolis wants to do something totally awesome for me?

Captain America Arcade game. Only $299. I can probably store this here at work until the move. Deanna is checking on that for me. But if not, is there a friend who would be willing to house this arcade game for me until I do move? Pretty please?

I know I’m not currently bidding on this, but I’ve already worked it out with the auctioneer that if I can find a place to store it, I’ll buy this. It just won’t fit in through my apartment doors. I’ve owned that D&D2 cabinet before so I know the width on these things.

Thank God it’s the Weekend

Oh man. Yesterday was crazy. Had my writing interview over the phone for outsaide of the day job. It’s a really great opportunity. It’s all telecommuting. It’s for a video game company. It would bring in a lot of on the side cash. It might even rekindle my interest in gaming. I was told I was the most qualified and had the most impressive resume. I was told my compensation requests were totally acceptable. Ad then she was like “Most of the other candidates are much closer. You’re halfway across the country. We want to do a face to face interview with whoever we choose for this. Because you’re so far away I want to go through the other candidates to make sure you’re who we want.” Everything felt great up to that point. And I was like “Why did that comment bother me so much?” Hurm. Oh well, if I don’t, I don’t. It’d be a great increase to my pocket book, but Minnesota is a black hole o’doom for writers, simply because 85% of everything industry wise is between Boston and DC.  We’ll see what happens.

The National Geographic thing was really neat. Although exploring Mars wasn’t as cool a topic at Lions eating Buffalo to me, the speaker was much better at disccusing his topic. Kobie Boykins was animated, charismatic, and funny. Not what you’d expect from a Mechanical engineer working for NASA. Certainly worth going to though!

This weekend is a lot of writing, finishing my taxes (Oh my god, NEVER be a freelancer/indy contractor unless you have to. No chance of your taxes ever being done before March.), and hanging out with a few people. Nothing too exciting or major, but still very busy.

Lost Thoughts (Potential Spoilers ahoy)

1. Goth Claire = Fucking Hot.

2. Knowing what we do, did anyone else lol at “Charlie, can you go get some knives?” I swear to god, the show will be a lot more interesting if they keep doing stuff like “Charlie, wrestle the bear!” or “Charlie, can you tell if this has poison in it?”

3. You know, I spoiled this episode’s gaspshockhorror plot twist by revealing that Easter Egg in the Season 2 DVD set. I’m wondering how I would have regarded it had I not known this six months ago.

4. Man, I can’t wait for Locke to die.

5. Ending = Very cool, but fuck! I don’t care abotu the Others. Every time they show up the show sucks!

Weird Question/Favour to Ask

My agent just told me that they want some of my IP/411 stuff for the portfoilo.

I’m actually kind of stumped as to what to send. I’m thinking 2 RG’s, 2 Reviews, and 2 Nyogthas. Maybe 3 of each. But what. After all, my review of I-Ninja is super popular but it’s totally bizarre. Yes, there will be a caveat that these writings were geared for a particular audience, but still. Maybe one of the features?

Anything really stand out from my IP/411 days (without looking up my old shit!) that I should include? Right now the only thing that comes to the forefront of my brain is my Jungian/Freudian Literary Criticism Nyogtha, as that won me some commendations and an award or two. Other than that, I’m a bit stumped as to what to put in the portfolio.

I’ll all hyper for 2pm.  Crossing my fingers there. Then I have the National Geographic thing tonight @ 7:30pm. Hoo-hah!

Achewood’s recent series has been hilarious especially with today’s twist.

65 movies have been nominated so far. Still plenty of time for you to get your nominations in if you haven’t already!

The current top ten are:

Transformers: the Movie

The Iron Giant

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

Spirited Away

The Last Unicorn

Finding Nemo

Nightmare Before Christmas

Princess Mononoke

Aladdin

Secret of NIMH

I expected Nemo, Transformers and possibly Princess Mononoke. Kind of surprised about the rest.

On the sidebar of this journal, I’ve added links so that LJ’ers can RSS this blog, a way for you to add me to your friend’s list so I can read and comment on your F-Only posts (Sadly there’s no way to combine the two), and a link to my Facebook. This is just in case anyone has missed these in the past.

Allright, I’ve changed my mind

Since a bunch of you emailed, commented, and Im’d me saying I should stick with the March Madness theme being “Best Animated Film,” I will.

Here are the rules.

1. Must be animated

2. Must be 60 minutes long

3. Can not have been made with the intent for serialization. (Meaning like the Gi Joe movies in the 80’s which were made to be able to be broken down into a five part mini-series)

4. Give me your list numbered from 1-10. #1 gets 10 points, #2 gets 9 and so on. We’ll then take the highest rated films and bracket them for voting. We usually do 64, but as I know a large portion of my readers still don’t know this blog exists, I might drop it to 32 this time until word gets out.

With that out of the way, here’s my top 10.

1. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (Not only the best B:TAS related thing ever made, but far and away the best Batman movie ever made. It puts the live action ones to shame.)

2. Transformers: The Movie. Quite possibly the movie that affected me more than any other emotionally. THEY KILLED PRIME GOD DAMN IT!

3. Vampire Hunter D. The original is still the best.

4. Macross; Do You Remember Love? Robotech > pretty much everything else ever made.

5. 8 Man After. My first ever DVD. Wonderful film with a soundtrack that along with Project A-Ko are the most memorable in all of Anime. Even if most people hadn’t seen the films

6. Fist of the North Star. Holy hell was this violent. And good. Most unexpected ending.

7. Project A-Ko. Cute and fun. That’s all it needs to be

8. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. It probably would be higher if they hired a translator that hadn’t fucked up the word Dhampir into Dunpeal.

9. Pokemon 3. Good plot, good characterization. Easily the best Pokemon film ever.

10. Pokemon: The First Movie. Mewtwo kills a shitload of things. Nuff said.

Leave your top ten here if possible, or on my facebook. LJ doesn’t send me alerts to my RSS being updated (but I do gets alerts when ym open ID is responded to) so I don’t want to miss your votes.

GAME ON!

Middle of the Week Update

1. If you go back far enough, you’ll notice the old LJ entries are starting to trickle in. Dan fixed the ability of this to upload XML files. The comments aren’t coming with it, but Sixapart is working on a way to do that. Yay!

I’ll have to reformat most of those posts as it didn’t translate quotation marks or apostophe’s right, or pic links in the video game reviews. So I’ll be spending weekend time update those as well as adding tags to all the posts. Oy. It’ll be a couple months worth of work, but then at least everything will be in one place.

 2. Picked up Two DVD’s yesterday. One is a documentary called “Horror Movies.” One guess what it is about. The other is “Sublime.” No, not the crappy band. Another horror movie. As well, Discovery/Travel Channel sent me the first season of “Made in America” hosted by Cliff Clavin aka John Ratzenberger. Not bad. A little too “God bless the US!” for me, but the documentary bits are solid.

3. I’m currently working with an agency in DC/Northern VA for my writing. They’re a headhunting agency specializing in my particular field of work. We’re putting together a large portfolio of my writing, including samples of everything from White Wolf to FISH! I’m already recieving a few interviews. It’ll be nice to do a little more writing. In the end if I do half the work I did for IP at my usual rate, that’s like an extra 45-50K a year. Can’t beat that right? Especially as it was all in my spare time.

4. I’m going to nix the Best Animated Movie tourney idea. Mianly because I had a hard time of thinking of 10. All I could come up with were: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Transformers the Movie, Vampire Hunter D, Macross: Do You Remember Love, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, FIst of the North Star, and well…that was it. Unless I wanted to bring in “Race for Your Life Charlie Brown.”  If I can only come up with 7, that’s a bad bad sign. I’ll try and think of something else and we can start nominations next week. Feel free to throw in your own ideas as well.

Month is halfway up. As always I find the seach threads that bring people to this blog amusing and I have to figure out how it connects to what I write, as well as why people look up what they look up. Here’s this month’s top 20 so far, from most sought down. The ones that amuse me most are in bold.

http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/13/news/companies/youtube_viacom_reaction/index.htm?cnn=yes

Viacom sues YouTube for a BILLION dollars. Jesus people, it’s free advertising/product placement. American Media companies are so bloated by their own greed they can’t see that the industry is turning away from the old ways of doing biz, and going to the net/or in an entirely new direction. You know much like oil companies, car manufacturers and everything else. Change is good people, change is good. Except killing Captain America and Blue Beetle. That was bad change. It really all comes down to lawyers vs Marketing people and how they think in completely different ways I suppose.

I just got an email saying they found my writer resume online and wanted me to do some press release and copy editing and so on for the,. I was like “Hmmm. I can do some freelance writing.” The company was in DC so I was like “Heeeeey!”

So I emailed them back asking for more info. Turns out the branch I’d be working for would be in Minneapolis. Not bad. No travel or anything needed. Then they give me the website address. Name of the Organization is MPP so at this point I’m thinking it’s like “Minnesota Public Policy” or something because it’s a non profit political group.

Turns out MPP stands for Marajuana Public Policy, and it’s a pro weed group trying to get their canabis legalized.

So I’m saying no.  I don’t do drugs in any way shape or form and it would be hypocritical of me to write for something I don’t use or believe in.

Wah wah wah.
