I think it is safe to assume that we all agree that…

…the only good thing to come from Civil War was Hercules’ “THOU ART NOT THOR!”

Everything else= awful beyond words.

Lookee Me! I’m Ted Dibiase!

Below the cut is something that I asked our finance guy at day job if I could take a picture and then blog it. He was like “Sure! Why not?”

So here you go.

Weds

1. Still don’t have my Pikamobile back. They were supposed to call last night. They didn’t. Hopefully they will today.

2. Second to last Chinese class. Yay.

3. Last night was pretty simple. Came home, worked out to Elton Brown’s Good Eats. Talked to some buds. Then it was the dreaded first date night.

Man, I hate first dates. I’m great with meeting people, saying hi, making a wonderful first impression and so on. But man do I hate first dates. Second to dumping stage is totally fine. But it’s those first dates that always make me wince even before I go on them.

Poll Provider

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Well, March is nearly upon us, and if we’re going to do March madness I’m going to need a quality poll making thing I can embed in some posts here. Alas, I can’t seem to find any up to LJ poll snuff and the wordpress downloads are well…pretty much crap.

Any suggestions?

What’s in a name?

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Of all people walking the earth today, I think I’m one of the most aware of how a person’s name can make, break, shape, or mold your thoughts of a person. Like me. I’m happy bubbly, love bunnies and Pokemon and enjoy travelling the world and cooking. Yet the first things that comes to most people’s minds when they see my name is “BLAH! Vampire!” And this realization stays with everyone forever once they catch on to the anagram potential.

That’s why I feel a little hypocritcal about the book I’m currently reading. It’s called “Feast of Souls” by CS Freidman. I loved her Coldfire Trilogy in high school and I decided to pick her newest book up…because I was able to get it for free. However, when I started reading it yesterday I found I couldn’t get past the first few pages because the name of the main character ruined it for me.

The main character is supposed to be a sexy redhead chick who was sold into sexual slavery as a kid but managed to grow up to be this power dominating magician type. Very much a bad ass femme fatale. Yet every description of her and the very dialogue she spoke was ruined because of the character’s name.

You see, CS named her vampish main character…Kamala. How awful is that?

Now I realize about half of you will get this immediately and laugh at the thought of Kamala being a sexy chick with magical powers. The other half will be scratching their heads and not getting it. It’s because you didn’t grow up with a certain Kamala as a major name. So for those of you unaware I give you…

Kamala the Ugandan Giant

God I hope this book doesn’t have any sex scenes…

This post was a lot less surreal when it orginally contained only point #2.

1. Holy shit. Mike Awesome hanged himself. That’s fucked up.  What’s more is that he was working as a realtor at some bank in Florida when it happened. Mike Awesome was one of the best big men the sport has ever seen. Seriously. Wow. This sucks. I’m sure the second I turn my IM or cell phone on, they’ll both be alit with conversation and conjecture over his suicide.

2. Do you ever find yourself whistling or humming during a monotous task only to find you have no idea what you are whistling or humming. It took me half an hour to realize I was humming the Robotech theme song.

So Saturday I was hanging out with some I had fooled around with for a short time and then realized it wasn’t going to work so I dropped her in that capacity. I assumed there had been enough time between the termination of the physical stuff and this weekend so I was like, “Yeah, let’s do the hang out thing.”

Of course it didn’t work out so well with her thinking we both still wanted a little something something from each other and me thinking, “God I wish I could get Devil Dogs out here.” Then when I found a pair of lips against my own I was like, “How did it come to this?”

So we talked about how me just being me (ie, friendly, open, honest, charismatic and listening to conversation with depth instead of small talk crap) is the same as every other guy on the planet trying to say “I really like you in the in-out in-out sort of way.” I guess most guys are kind of not really that attentive to girls conversation-like. I mean, I don’t know. These are her words, not mine. Being a straight male I don’t really get to witness too many intimate one on one pre dating rituals regarding how another man would act in my stead.

Anyway the question was brought up to me, “What does it take to keep you.” As is, what characterstics make me stay with a girl and more importantly, want to make me stay. I broached this with Madeline and Alex yesterday at brunch and we were all a bit mystified. Because the only honest answer I could think of was well…I don’t think there is anything. Any one trick pony to keep me from getting bored or annoyed or turning a blind eye to the batshit crazy.

But I spent most of last night and this morning pondering this because, it’s a good question to ask. Especially when my usual reaction to the first sign of “Okay, you’ve got some issues” is to pull back any affection and walk the other way. Not I said usual you sarcastic bastards out there waiting to make a Mario related comment.

It comes down to three things as best I can tell:

Monday again?

Monday, February 19th, 2007

Let’s see, Saturday was not the best day overall. Here’s what went down

1) Hung out with a friend who thought it was a date and I thought it wasn’t and the usual ensued. Never good.

2) Laura asked me to do something. Had to turn that down for obvious reason. :-/

3. Gremlins was nowhere as good live as I thought it would be. Too much human stuff and not nearly enough monsters being wacky.

Sunday I hung out with Alex and Madeline for a few hours and we went to a place called “Chicken and Waffles”. Good food, but my stomach really didn’t like the mix of the two different foods. Also, they served Lime Kool-Aid that appears to be twice as concentrated as Kool-Aid is supposed to be. God damn. I crashed so hard when that sugar wore off I had to take a nap. Spent the rest of the night watching “This Film is Not Yet Rated” and getting the occasional email from Mel. All in all, a pretty boring evening.

Speaking of that…I have two tickets up for grabs for events this week. Totally free as I get companion tickets due to my donations I make to these things.

The first is on Thursday, Feb 22nd. It’s a National Geographic event at the Pantages called Relentless Enemies: Bison and Lions in the Wild. It’s wild African animals kicking the crap out of each other. Way cool! I think Other Alex is going to this, but he hasn’t given a firm yes or no, so please let me know.

The Second is Saturday Feb 24th. It’s The MN Orchestra doing Brahms and Bach. Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. Is there anything more gothie in all of classical music. Alyssia went with me to the last one, but she and Matt are out of town this weekend so I need someone to fill my companion ticket for this as well.

Let me know ASAP please.

Oh finally, Pikamobile is back tomorrow. WHOOO!

Quick Weekend Update

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

1. Saw Ghost Rider with some friends. It was much better than I thought it was going to be. Aside from the two Spider-Man movies, i’ve found ever Marvel movie ever made to be pretty fucking bad. Elektra. Daredevil. X2 and X3. Fantastic 4 was tolerable if only for the Human Torch. Everything else sucked. Ghost Rider though…I really liked it. Not like it’ll win any awards or anything, but I liked it enought o know I’ll eventually buy it. Why?

Because Nic Cage isn’t channeling Elvis or doing his usual crap. Instead 2007’s Ghost Rider is the equivalent of 1966’s Batman. Cage = West and the script is definitely camp. It’s got some pretty purposely funny scenes, and Sam Elliott and Peter Fonda are generally excellent no matter how bad everything else around them is. So yeah, Ghost Rider is my Snakes of a Plane for 2007 methinks. The sequel is already planned and I hope it’ll be just as wacky.

If you go in expecting a serious action flick, you’re going to hate it. If you like Burt Ward and Burgess Merideth, you’ll like this. What can I say? I like camp.

2.  Went to Summer and John’s Karoake party. Always good to see them.

That was my Friday. Went to bed at 3am. Woke up at 11am. Had some breakfast and watched the first two episodes of “How I Met Your Mother” which Chris lent me last night. Okay, all of you are right. Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) is a suit wearing version of me.

It’s stories like this that cause me to keep Thlyali and Baby even when I know life would be much easier with them gone. They’re happy, groomed, well fed and have room to stretch and play.

However, that being said if you know someone who would like a bunny rabbit for a pet, don’t hesitate to let me know. They need good home, and if I’m moving in about 6-7 months, only Chewie can come with. Please help the bunnies!
