The end of 2006

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

I’m actually very glad 2006 is over. It’s been easily the worst year since 2002.  Stalked by cultists, completely lost any enjoyment of video games, watched my car get hit twice, shot once, and drowned another. I actually got sick this year, and so on and so forth. That’s not to say everything was bad this year, as there were a lot of great things like all the travel I managed to do and writing for Pokemon, but all in all, I’m very much looking forawrd to 2007. :-P

Wordpress has a would-be xml uploader for old LJ files. in 2007 I’m going to import the old LJ posts and eventually upload all my Nyogtha, reviews, and Retrograding articles from IP to here as well. However right now I’m getting this error: Unable to create directory /files2/www/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2006/12. Is its parent directory writable by the server?, which probably means I’ll have to get Dan to upload it, as he runs the server.

Feeling much better. Now I’m just a bit phlegmy, and that’s nbot so bad.

Went out to dinner with Dan and Spike last night, and tonight I’ll be playing Desginated Driver at a few parties. I hate New Year’s early morning driving because it’s when the stupidest people on the planet decide they can safely drive their vehicle while massively intoxicated. Oy. Otherwise the only thing I have planned for today is a full-on workout. Tomorrow is a lot of Pokemon article writing. Tuesday is SNAKES ON A PLANE ON A DVD DAY. Go buy it!

Official Miami Dates for HBK World Tour

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Arriving in Miami 2:59pm.  Friday, Jan 12th.

Leaving for Minneapolis 5:22pm, Tuesday, Jan 16th.

Friday and Saturday are my free nights, but I believe I’m saving those for Jennifer. Sunday and Monday are rather booked already.

Now I have to find a competitive activity for everyone on Monday to encourage team building and crap. My first idea was to make a cross country skiing race where the last team would be fired, but then I remembered Miami doesn’t have skiing. That and i don’t want to be trapped in a rocket beneath an avalanche of snow asking God to please bless the rocket house and all those that dwell within the rocket house.

Friday.

Still sick. Feeling better than yesterday, but I’m still stuffed up to the point where I have a snius migrane and where my eyes are so puffing I look like one of those awful vaudevillian racist asian impersanators (”You rike flied lice?” sorts of things that were considered acceptable in the days of yore). I’ve still got the trots and a fever too. I’d PROBABLY be feeling better if you know, I hadn’t been stupid and worked out yesterday. Yeah I know. Just a bit obsessive. I go into more detail in that sort of thing in my Myspace blog, if only because I can friend’s only that.

How am I spending my sick day? Working! I already got up at 7am just to do a bunch of work stuff, and I’m having people email me work to do while in between cat-naps. I need to be productive. This is my first sick day I’ve taken in years, and even that had to be forced on me by my higher ups. I hate taking them. i’d rather go to work and be sick than be at home, because when I’m home sick  if I play video games or watch a movie, or the like, it feels…wrong. Like I’m playing hooky or when I’d be in high school and call in sick when really I’d be macking it up with my girlfriend or going on a crazy adventure with friends. I shouldn’t enjoy being sick, you know? Plus to be honest, I’d rather be working, if only to have all my Jan plans finalized.

So what did I do yesterday while working from home when I wasn’t working? Catnaps. Then a long nap from 4-8pm. Then I went to bed at midnight. Lots of sleeping intermixed with the TNAL: Best of the Bloodiest Brawls, which really wasn’t that violent. I mean, it wasn’t ECW or Onita/Muta violent. The three best matches were AMX/XXX in a cage, 4 way dance between Jeff Hardy, Abyss, Rhino, and Sabu, and then the Abyss/Sabu barbed wire match, and the latter was nowhere as hard to watch as Funk/Sabu back in 1997. Or was it 1998? I digress. Mediocre overall as the disc was more garbage wrestling than the ECW bloodfest dvd, and the ECW one had better spots, like Awesome/Tanaka and so on.

That’s pretty much it. A nondescript day, but considering I slept through most of it, it’s not surprising.

I REALLY want today to end

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

Oy, and things just keep getting more and more annoying today.

I leave work, go to pick up my packages from DHL. Their system is down and they don’t have an organized area for packages to pick up. I fall asleep waiting because I’m sick and they’re like “We can’t find it. Maybe it’ll turn up eventually!” Jesus fuck.

Then I go to the grocery store for some soup because hey, soup helps sick people, right? Well, I swear, it was geezer central today in there. Wall to wall grumpy rude self-indulgent old people who think they’re entitled to shit because they’re closer to dying than others. Rude to the staff, rude to each other, and of course rude to me.

Then I stop to get some quarters from a change machine for laundry this weekend. It eats my ten dollar bill. Takes me forever to find an attendent. They undo the machine. There’s no ten dollar bill. They fiddle with the machine for 10 minutes and finally it’s found trapped in some weird section and they were like “Man, how did that happen?” It happened because today is out to get me! :-P

Come home, do some work, check the blog here and OH MY GOD is the style fubar’d. Plus there are a few comments pointing this out to me. Grrr. Just trial and error I suppose trying to find the right scheme for this. First one I liked didn’t allow comments and translated everything into German. This one looked great on some comps and awful on others and overrided the threaded comment feature. Alas.

So far the best thing that happened today was seeing that Unhallowed for D&DM is going to be awesome. Strahd figure! Whoo! Well, even then it’s Strahd if he was designed by Anne Rice in an anime phase. But still, STRAHD!

All things considered, it could be worse. I mean, I could be crazy sick, like with malaria or anal tumours. It’s just been small annoyance after small annoyance.

Current Mood: Frustrated

Oh, two other new things.

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

Dan uploaded two new changes to the blog, so thanks to Dan for that! GO DAN!

The first is that we uploaded “Democracy” so that we can to polls. Thanks to McCullar for that link. That means this March’s wacky tournament will still occur. I thinking cook’s for this year, but that might be too specific. Perhaps it is only I that wishes to see say, Julia Child vs. Bobby Flay.

The second is we’ve added the new layout Pinkfu found for me. Looks great, and certainly much better than the default. Thanks Pink!

One BIG thing worth noting in the new style layout is that there is NO “Leave a comment” button. Just click on “comments” or “0 comments” and it’ll work the same way. Just a heads up!

I want today to end

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

Man, I am even more under the weather today than yesterday. My boss said, “God dammit, go home! You’re sick!” But I have to stay here until the President of the company gets in so we can book finally book the tickets to Miami. Yes, I know. It’s the 28th and the tickets aren’t booked. I was like “PLEASE LET ME BOOK” yesterday, but to no avail. No I think every seat on the nonstops are filled up save for the exit row/extra cost seats. Sheesh. At this rate I’ll probably fly out on Friday the 12th.

Ugh. I hate being sick. I really do. You have the weirdest dreams. I think all I had dreams about last night was Mystery Science Theatre 3000 songs. And I haven’t watched that show in years. Yet I can still remember the original theme music (Joel > Mike. Fuck Mike!) and all sorts of weird shit. I woke up in the middle of the night and was like, “Wow. How the fuck did THAT stay in my long term memory.” Defintely going to go home as soon as I can and sleep the day away.

I have two packages to pick up at DHL today. Both gaming related stuff. No idea what they could be though.

David Farrant, Sean Manchester’s “Arch Enemy” from the Highgate Vampire days, has been posting to the post o’drama with a list of fake alias Sean uses to harrass people and put a link to his brand new Occultist Message Board. I will say one thing for Farrant’s group, at least they don’t think I’m Dracula. :-P

That’s pretty much it. It’s a fuck all day. I’m going to go home and get some sleep now.

One of the best ideas (and stories) I’ve read this year.

Where “Check, Please” Is Your Call

At a new breed of “Robin Hood” restaurants, diners pay what they can afford — and what they think the meal is worth

By PETA OWENS-LISTON
Deciding between the spicy peanut stew and the pesto chicken, or the squash soup and the avocado, chicken, lime soup, are not the only decisions tempting patrons at the One World Café in Salt Lake City and the SAME (So All Might Eat) Café in Denver. They must also decide what the meal is worth.

These pay-as-you-can cafes have missions that are unapologetically altruistic—call it serving up fare Robin Hood style. “Our philosophy is that everyone, regardless of economic status, deserves the chance to eat healthy, organic food while being treated with dignity,” explains Brad Birky, who opened SAME with his wife, Libby, in October. Customers who have no money are encouraged to exchange an hour of service — sweep, wash the dishes, weed the organic garden — for a meal. Likewise, guests who have money are encouraged to leave a little extra to offset the meals of those who have less to give. “We’re a hand up, not a hand out,” says One World owner Denise Cerreta, who prides herself on the fact that everyone can afford a meal at her café.

Barns and Noble after Christmas Sale

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

B&N is having a pretty damn good after Christmas sale. A ton of 2,5, and 7 dollar books! Here’s what I got.

1. 2007 French Living Page a Day Calendar -$5.99. It’s 365 French Recipes! How is this not up my alley?

2. My Favorite Horror Story -$2.00. It’s 15 famous authors. Each one picks their favorite horror story of all time. For 2 bucks, I thought it would be neat.

3. Dracula: Authoritative Text Contexts Reviews and Reactions Dramatic and Film Variations Criticism - $2.00. Sounds like perfect Nyogtha fodder, no?

4. Peanuts Treasury -$7.00. Good gift for a relative come their birthday.

5. Chaz Addams’ Half Baked Cookbook -$5.00. Charles Addams cookbook and cartoons. How could I not take this awesome combo?

6. The Complete Peanuts 1955-1958 Box Set. -$5.00. It’s usually 35-50 bucks, so for 5$ the Jew in me had to get it. Again, a good gift for down the road.

RIP President Ford.

Wow. President Gerald Ford is dead. That leaves only Carter, Bush 1, Clinton, and Bush 2 still kicking.

I’ll always remember Ford first and foremost for being the only President not elected by the general public. Ford replaced Spiro Agnew after he resigned as Nixon’s VP. Then Nixon resigned under circumstances we’re all too familar with, and Ford, who never ran, was President. Now, there have been other VP’s that have become President, but they were always part of the original ticket at election time.

Another day, another set of useless brain farts.

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

Let’s see, I woke up this morning at 3am with a really sore throat. I’m feeling fine though but at the time in my half asleep confusion I though it might be the onset of strep. However at 7am I felt fine. I still considered working from home today, but alas my computer didn’t want to synch up with the network.

My Blue Ginger cookbook came last night along with the DVD’s of Ming’s PBS TV show. Can’t wait to watch those!

My god, does FFXII never end?

Went for a late dinner with Spike to Bad Waitress. First time there. I had a grilled cheese. I wanted soup, but all they had was split pea. Oh well, soup will be my lunch for the day!

It totally does not feel like a Wednesday.

Two last things:

1) Anyone know if there is a plug in that lets me do polls on Wordpress? I can’t find one.

2) Anyone seen the Black Dahlia? It comes out on DVD today. I love the folklore and the video game, but the movie is not something I’ve seen and I’ve heard it’s crap.
